It's been about a month since I accepted my very first position teaching elementary art.
First I thought...curriculum! I must complete my curriculum! Ok- but where to start? So I found myself scrolling through Pinterest, Art of Ed, blogs of known art teaching gurus, etc. Long story short, when you're starting from scratch, the to-do list can feel a little impossible. I have searching high and low, scouring every corner of Pinterest and all of those super helpful/wonderful teaching websites, but a straightforward, simple to-do list for a brand new art teacher is not to be found. Probably because it doesn't exist, which is probably because teaching art is not simple or straightforward. So, as I stumble through this process, I am going to do my best to use this blog as a place to reflect along the way. My hope is that eventually, when a fresh-out-of-college, art teachin' newbie finds themselves in my current position, asking the same questions I am asking now, they will find this record of my trials and tribulations useful. If nothing else, I can add those magical buzzwords to my resume- "reflective practitioner"- and really feel like I mean it.
